Cultural Marxism

We definitely are living in some interesting times. Up is down, right is wrong, and everyone is angry about some kind of faux injustice, no matter how petty it is.

 

There’s this strange concept called Cultural Marxism, and the advocates of it are constantly slamming everything that was once revered in the US. Cultural Marxism is a variation of the class warfare that Karl Marx wrote about in the Communist Manifesto in 1848. Rather than the working classes fighting against the bourgeoisie for their fair share of the economic pie, Cultural Marxism is a degeneration, where social justice warriors are in a perpetual fight against what they believe to be oppression.

 

Sure, oppression has been a part of our history, but today everyone can thrive in the US if you’re willing to work at succeeding. We’re told this from the time we are little kids. Some just don’t take it to heart.

 

Cultural Marxism puts our centuries-long cultural traits under the lens grinder; in this case everything that has been part of Western culture is being scrutinized. The Christian faith, heterosexism, capitalism, ethnicity, race, art, literature, history, and even our rights are some of the traditions, beliefs, and academic disciplines that are being criticized.

 

A lot of the criticism is happening on college campuses, where many professors have completely succeeded in indoctrinating their students that nearly everything about the US either was or still is a terrible sin. And political correctness is the usual, tired, and worn out way of expressing Cultural Marxism. If you don’t spew the politically correct narrative, your reputation gets destroyed.

 

There are chapters in American history that were terribly awful: slavery and the treatment of women and Native Americans are the most well-known. But there isn’t a country that exists today that doesn’t have at least one blemish in its past. Should the social justice warriors be protesting against the ancient Egyptians for keeping Moses and the Hebrews as slaves 4,000 years ago? Should they protest the Ottoman Turks for forcing Eastern Europeans into slavery in the 1400s?

 

And the subjectivity with which the warriors view the US as opposed to other countries of the world is truly mystifying. For example, we continuously fight a war against terrorism, but there are protestors who are wreaking violence and chaos to allow unvetted refugees into the US. The vetting process is racist, they say. But might some of them be terrorists? We’ll surely find out soon enough.

 

Freedom of speech is constantly being censored by the Marxist advocates. If you are offensive in any way, then you are shut down or beaten up. And this is to protect cultural diversity when our country is the most diverse in the world. Nearly everyone living in the US is the descendent of immigrants who brought their cultures with them. Readers of this article might be aware of the Breitbart editor whose speech was cancelled thanks to the violent protests at University of California at Berkeley a few weeks ago. Apparently cultural diversity is more important than diversity of opinion.

 

When you have freedom of speech censored because it’s offensive, you have a country that is slowly being forced into a tyrannical state where everyone must accept and repeat a politically correct narrative. This type of force is just as oppressive as that which the warriors are supposed to be fighting against. And our government is supposed to protect this as well as other rights that we have. But it doesn’t. In fact, certain elements in our government are in favor of Cultural Marxism.

 

The philosopher, John Stuart Mill, wrote about the force of popular opinion on dissenters in his book, On Liberty: “Protection against the tyranny of the magistrate is not enough; there needs protection also against the tyranny of the prevailing opinion and feeling, against the tendency of society to impose, by other means than civil penalties, its own ideas and practices as rules of conduct on those who dissent from them; to fetter the development and, if possible, prevent the formation of any individuality not in harmony with its ways, and compel all characters to fashion themselves upon the model of its own.’’
